Given his experience as a student and a teacher in four artistic institutions in both China and France, Jian Xuanyi has acquired a substantial technical know-how, an analytical mind and a broad perspective of art history. His grasp of contemporary art has lent his works a powerful and serene quality. The well-rounded compositions and intense colours exude a sense of generosity and elegance.
His life
Born in 1946, Jian Xuanyi studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1970 and was then enrolled as a teacher at the Central Academy of Arts in Beijing. In 1987, he created the Arts and Design Department at Guangzhou University and became its first president. In 1990, he was invited by the Paris School of Fine Arts and settled as a painter in France. He earned numerous prizes for his paintings, some of which can be found in official collections and in Chinese museums. Jian Xuanyi promotes contemporary French impressionism in China and facilitates exchanges between the artists of both countries.
